Help managing your banking

If you or someone you care about needs help managing their banking, you may be able to nominate someone you trust by setting up an Authority to Operate or Power of Attorney. These arrangements allow someone to help manage banking when needed, in situations like:

Health changes

Serious injury or illness – whether temporary or permanent – can make it difficult to manage day-to-day banking.

Ageing or cognitive decline

Advancing age or dementia can affect memory, decision-making, and in some cases, the ability to manage your finances.

Being away or planning ahead

Being away for an extended period, unable to access your accounts, or wanting to make sure future decisions are made in your best interests.

Problem gambling support

If problem gambling is affecting you or someone close to you, help is available. You can take steps to protect your finances and limit the impact of gambling, including:

  • Set up card controls in the mobile app or internet banking to limit how you can use your card (for example, blocking online purchases).
  • Reduce your credit card limit to help avoid using credit to fund gambling.
  • Protect joint funds by setting joint accounts to two-to-sign so you're not risking shared funds.
  • Remove redraw access so any in-advance loan payments can't be used for gambling.
  • Register with Betstop, the national self-exclusion register that removes you from Australian licensed online and phone betting services.
