International transfers
We’ve made the process of sending and receiving money worldwide as simple as possible, thanks to our International Payment Service powered by Convera. Whether you're sending money to a friend or family member, or something a little less personal, you can count on us to help.
We’re here to make overseas money transfers as quick and easy as possible. Payments to overseas bank accounts can be made online using internet banking, the BCU Bank app, or in any of our branches.
To send money to an overseas bank account, make sure you have the following information:
- The required currency and amount you’d like to transfer.
- The full name, street address (not a PO Box), and bank account number of the receiving business or person.
- Details of the receiving bank, including its name, street address, and bank codes – such as the SWIFT/BIC (Bank Identifier Code), bank sort code, CHIPS, or routing number.
- The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) if you’re sending money to the UK or European Union.
How to make an international transfer online
Before you can make an overseas transfer online, you’ll need to be registered for internet banking. Once registered, get in touch with us to set your international transfer limit. This limit is set to $0 by default for security reasons, but a quick call is all it takes for us to update it.
Once you’ve done that, you can make overseas payments through both internet banking and the BCU Bank mobile app. The process is pretty simple, too – log in, click on 'Transfer/Pay' in internet banking or 'Pay' from the main menu in the mobile app, and follow the prompts.
BCU Bank’s transfer fees:
Transfer method | Transfer fee |
---|---|
Telegraphic transfer (sent in a foreign currency) | $30.00 |
Telegraphic transfer (send in Australian dollars) | $45.00 |
Online international transfer made in internet banking or the mobile app | $15.00 |
Receiving money from overseas into your BCU Bank account is easier than ever – whether it's a one-time payment or a something that happens on the regular.
To get started, visit the Convera website and fill out the online form. Once you’ve done that, you'll receive PDF deposit instructions. Keep these instructions somewhere safe and email them to the sender for reference – they’ll need to follow them to transfer money to your account.
Receive money from overseas formAsk the sender to:
- Present these instructions to their bank when arranging the payment to you.
- Deposit the amount as outlined in the instructions in their local currency (not Australian dollars).
The funds will arrive in the sender’s own currency, and Convera will then convert them to Australian dollars before forwarding them to us. Rest assured, we'll credit the funds to your BCU Bank account as soon as we receive them.
Please note: BCU Bank does not hold their own SWIFT code.

Got a question about overseas payments?
When you send a telegraphic transfer overseas, the money is usually received within 3 to 5 business days excluding time differences, however some currencies may take longer than others to arrive. Timelines are only approximate and may be held up if Convera requires more information or additional details about the payment.
When you or someone else sends money from overseas to your BCU Bank account you should usually receive the funds within three business days, however this depends on the country the payment is coming from.
A SWIFT code or BIC (Bank Identifier Code) is the unique identification code used to identify a specific bank or financial institution for international transfers. It is a standard format code which is made up of eight or 11 letters and/or numbers.
We don't have our own SWIFT or BIC code for inwards payments, as we partner with Convera.
