An example of this is through campaigns hosted regularly, one of our recent member focused campaigns was a $1500 Travel Voucher competition, which asked for members to outline their favourite holiday destination in 50 words or less.
We had a lot of fantastic entries, with destinations ranging from luxury international resorts to relaxed camping trips with friends. One entry that stood out to the entire panel was an absolutely humbling submission from Grafton, Wilma and Wal Green, which was voted unanimously as the winning entry.
Most people tend to look at a holiday as ‘me time’, and give themselves permission to think only about what they want to do and see. Wilma and Wal Green however, saw the travel competition as an opportunity to help support our Australian farmers and Outback residents, and entered the below:
“Our holiday destination is outback Australia. We would love to travel out to the Drought areas and spend money buying groceries, petrol, meals, coffee etc to support the local businesses that support local communities”.
Karen Mills bcu Area Manager and James Stanmore, Grafton Store supervisor, presented Wilma and Wal with a $1500 gift card at the bcu Grafton store earlier this week. The winning couple requested a gift card, as opposed to a travel voucher, as it would allow them to use the prize money in local regions to help support the local businesses as they set off to Outback Australia later this month.
Wilma & Wal’s entry evoked a sense of community spirit which bcu whole-heartedly support and it was a privilege to see that our travel competition winners putting the farmers’ first and foremost.
