Our Lending Manager, David Cawthorne, has always been a numbers man.
His love for mathematics and accounting kick-started his 38-year career in the finance and banking industry.
David started as a bank teller when he graduated from high school, and then explored various roles before joining BCU Bank as a Loans Officer at a Coffs Harbour branch in 1996.
Now he’s travelling around the Sunshine Coast region, meeting clients at home, at work, in a café, or over the phone to offer his expertise and help them with their home lending needs.
“What I love most about working for BCU is that we treat our customers as people, not just as another number,” David said.
“When I meet a new client, I spend the first 15-20 minutes getting to know them.
“Quite often I give my clients my mobile number so they can call me anytime, anywhere with questions they might have about the home loan process.
“This is what differentiates us from the big banks.”
David has knowledge of all areas of home lending, including first home buying, owner-occupied, investment, refinancing, and more.

“I enjoy helping clients who are moving to their next home, renovating, or finding an investment property, but helping a first home buyer has to be one of the most rewarding parts of the job,” he said.
“I’ve had clients who have had their hearts set on a house burst into tears of joy over the phone when I tell them their loan has been approved.
“It gives you a real buzz.”
David also has a strong connection to the Sunshine Coast community, showing support for the Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club and the local charity endED.
