Through thick and thin: financing that grows with your agribusiness

Our Business Banking team takes pride in backing your business, through the good times and the tough. With roots in banana farming, it’s no surprise that we’re a trusted financial partner for many businesses within the agriculture industry.

With over a combined half a century of agribusiness experience, our team has a deep understanding of the agriculture industry. As regional locals themselves, they know what is currently happening in your area and can actively support your business with tailored guidance.

Meet Michael Beaumont. Based in Wollongbar, NSW, Michael’s been in farming for over 19 years and refinanced with BCU Bank in 2020.

When looking for a financial partner, Michael had three considerations in mind: flexibility, dedication and commitment. BCU Relationship Manager, Steven ‘Ando’ Anderson, ticked all three boxes.

“Ando’s been in the industry for a long time, in fact he financed my first farming enterprise when I was 18, at another bank in Darling Downs. He knows what he’s talking about,” Michael said.

“When we moved into macadamia farming especially, we were totally new to the industry and many banks wouldn’t give us a go, but Steve did.”

Michael's business has gone in a few directions – a familiar story for many businesses.

After floods and bushfires, the macadamia price plunged from $6/kg to $2.50/kg from 2020 to 2023. A butcher by trade, Michael extended his scope. Sticking with macadamia farming Michael saw opportunity in his extra paddocks to rear livestock and establish a farm-to-plate butchery on the side. A business decision that lead him to selling macadamia and grass-fed meat products on a national scale. Like his business plans, he needed a Relationship Manager who could grow with him.

“Even through tough times Steve’s had our back and helped us grow because of it. He’s easy to reach and works hard to get our loan across the line at a good interest rate too,” he said.

As his enterprise grows Michael is keen to explore future financing opportunities with BCU.

“The bigger banks don’t know you from a bar of soap. They never gave that personal touch and that's why I've never looked at refinancing with anyone else,” Michael said.

Through thick and thin, our Business Banking team is committed to helping your business grow.
