When it comes to business development in the broker channel, relationships matter–but outcomes matter more. For Kylie Anderson, Business Development Manager (BDM) at BCU Bank, the two go hand in hand.
Based in Brisbane and supporting brokers across Queensland and New South Wales, Kylie works exclusively in the broker channel, partnering primarily with brokers within the AFG and Outsource. Since joining BCU in July 2022, she has played a pivotal role in expanding BCU’s broker footprint from Gympie through to Newcastle – building something from the ground up.
A career built on experience (and both sides of the fence)
Kylie brings nearly 30 years of finance experience to her role. She has spent the majority of her working life in banking and finance, including:
- 22 years with NAB, building institutional banking knowledge
- 6 years as a finance broker, working directly with clients and navigating real-world credit scenarios
- Almost 4 years with BCU Bank, where she has exceeded 100% of new-to-bank targets year-on-year
She holds a Diploma of Finance specialising in Mortgage Broking and is highly regarded for her expertise in complex credit scenarios, application workshopping, and broker support.
One of Kylie’s standout achievements has been launching the BCU Bank brand into the broker network from a blank canvas.
“Unlike many BDM roles where an existing broker group is inherited, I had to source and build broker relationships myself” successfully onboarding more than 450 AFG brokers since she started.
And her impact hasn’t gone unnoticed. Kylie has been nominated three times for Better Business BDM of the Year, run by The Advisor, recognition that reflects both her performance and her reputation in market.
A partnership-first approach to banking
Kylie’s philosophy is simple: be accessible, be proactive, and deliver.
Having worked as both a broker and a BDM , Kylie understands the pressures on each side. This dual perspective allows her to offer practical alternatives, ask the right questions, and cut through unnecessary complexity.
“I can see both sides of the coin. I understand how institutions work and how brokers work–and that helps me get better outcomes for everyone involved.”
Kylie’s background also means she knows exactly where to go to progress an application efficiently. By reducing friction and cutting through noise, she helps brokers deliver faster, more favourable outcomes for their clients.
Why customer-owned banking matters
For Kylie, BCU Bank’s customer-owned model is more than a point of difference, it’s the foundation of how she works.
“Because we’re customer-owned, banking becomes personal. Our customers aren’t just numbers; they’re part of the BCU family.”
That same mindset extends to brokers. Kylie focuses on making brokers feel genuinely included in the BCU Bank community, ensuring onboarding is warm, engaging, and tailored to individual client needs.
What sets Kylie apart
Ask brokers what they value most about working with Kylie, and you’ll likely hear a common answer: responsiveness. Kylie is known for getting back to brokers immediately.
In a competitive market particularly for a growing customer-owned bank, speed, accountability, and presence matter.
Beyond the office
Outside of work, Kylie is a proud mum of two grown boys. She loves spending time with her husband, exploring new places, and making the most of day trips, especially along the Sunshine Coast.
Travel is a big passion, with Europe firmly on the list whenever possible – Paris being a standout favourite. Closer to home, you’ll often find Kylie out on park walks with her 11-year-old Shih Tzu toy poodle, enjoying good food, and great company.
