At bcu, supporting local communities within our regions is something we’re passionate about. We know that when organisations work together, groups and our communities will flourish.

Following the member engagement and positive feedback from the recent bcu 50 year anniversary Community Grants, we are excited to announce we will be continuing our Community Grants, now as a quarterly initiative.

We have renamed the initiative in a tribute to the founding treasurer of bcu, Mr Neville Spear. Stephen Spear (son of Neville) said the Spear family was honoured by bcu’s decision to rename its community grants after their father stating "it is truly a perfect fit, as Neville and his wife Beatrice were very passionate about their local communities".

The Neville Spear Community Grants will provide $10,000 in grants for not-for-profit and community groups within our regions. It’s up to you, our members, to help determine where the Neville Spear Community Grants are allocated.

Vote for a group

Neville Spear Community Grant Initiative

When people work together, our communities flourish. Across the east coast there are many deserving groups working tirelessly to support those in need. Sometimes those groups need some support themselves!

The Neville Spear Community Grants initiative, through member nominations on our website, provides assistance to community groups or small not-for-profit organisations.

Existing bcu members can nominate a group or local charity within the outlined nomination period .bcu will shortlist the top eight nominated groups to  be featured on our website for our members to vote for their preferred group.

The top four as voted by our members will receive $1,500 each and the remaining four will receive $1,000 each.

Only bcu members can nominate a group however the group nominated is not required to be a bcu member.
