Meet our Port Macquarie Mobile Lending Specialist – Suzy Spicer

1. Tell us a little about yourself

I grew up in the beautiful city of Tamworth, Country Music Capital. I had a great life growing up and spent most of my time riding horses. My finance career started in London with a chance opportunity with Goldman Sachs, which ended up with me living and travelling overseas for five years. On returning to Australia I worked with another finance giant - BlackRock Investment Management. During that time I got married, had my beautiful children, had a successful career and enjoyed all Sydney had to offer. After deciding I wanted more family time I moved to Port Macquarie over five years and have a wonderful life here with my kids. Every day I remember how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place as Port Macquarie.

2. What was your first job?

My first job was washing cars at my father’s Nissan Dealership in Tamworth on a Saturday morning. I used to love it, and think I got about $3 hour. Dad taught me early about saving money for a goal. I saved my weekly pay until I could afford my first pair of RM Williams boots.

3. What does your role entail at bcu?

My role is a mobile home lender. I am responsible for helping our members in the Port Macquarie area with finance required to secure their dream home.
I work with members who may be ready to buy now, but also some members who are looking to buy but don’t know how much they need to save first as a deposit. We can work out a budget and help them on with a savings plan.

4. What is a piece of guidance you would give someone looking for a loan?

A home loan isn’t always about the best interest rate, even though this is important. How you structure your home loan, such as whether you have a fixed or variable interest rate, have a loan with or without an offset for example, can make a big difference in how quickly you can pay your home loan off. Finding a lender that can take the time to explain this to you is essential. Ask lots of questions!

5. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

My favourite part of being a lender is when I get to call a member and tell them their loan is approved. We take the time to know our members, and feel like we take the home loan journey with them, from initial meeting to submission, then onto locating a property, having their offer accepted and then final approval. It is a real buzz to see our members secure their dream home.
