Last October marked three years of our partnership with Orange Sky Australia, a milestone that reflects just how much we’ve been able to achieve together for our community.
Let’s take a quick stroll down memory lane to revisit our impact so far and look ahead at what’s next.
How it began
In 2022, we proudly announced our partnership with Orange Sky Australia to provide practical support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship. As a customer-owned bank, supporting our members and the communities we serve is at the heart of what we do. Partnering with an organisation that shares those values felt like the perfect fit.
Orange Sky provides free laundry, warm showers, and friendly conversation to people doing it tough in more than 50 locations across the country. With the rising cost of living placing more pressure on everyday Australians, the demand for Orange Sky’s services has continued to grow.
In recent months, Orange Sky has been able to deliver more than 21,084 loads of free laundry from July to September, and countless safe, hot showers for people doing it tough across Australia.
Recent achievements
The last three years have delivered meaningful, measurable benefits—something we’re incredibly proud to support. And in just the last financial year alone our partnership has helped Orange Sky deliver:
- 174 support shifts
- 1,042 loads of laundry
- 694 hot showers
- 1,398 hours of connection on the iconic orange chairs
Every load washed, every shower offered, and every conversation shared has helped restore dignity and connection for people who need it most.
What’s on the horizon
This year, we’re proudly supporting Orange Sky’s national fundraising campaign: Walk the Walk, powered by BCU Bank.
The challenge invites participants to complete 122 km throughout March, representing the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. Funds raised help provide essential hygiene services and meaningful conversations for those doing it tough.
In 2025, our BCU team, Stroll Patrol, stepped up in a big way, placing third nationally and raising $12,280. As the 2026 naming rights sponsor, we’re aiming even higher: to exceed our previous fundraising efforts, boost staff involvement across all departments, and strengthen our commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
