Celebrating four years of community with Orange Sky

08 Oct 2026 | 2 min read

October marks four years of our partnership with Orange Sky Australia, a milestone that reflects just how much we’ve been able to achieve together for our community.

Let’s take a quick stroll down memory lane to revisit our impact so far and look ahead at what’s next.

How it began

In 2023, we proudly announced our partnership with Orange Sky Australia to provide practical support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship. As a customer-owned bank, supporting our members and the communities we serve is at the heart of what we do. Partnering with an organisation that shares those values felt like the perfect fit.

Orange Sky provides free laundry, warm showers, and friendly conversation to people doing it tough in more than 50 locations across the country. With the rising cost of living placing more pressure on everyday Australians, the demand for Orange Sky’s services has continued to grow.

In recent months, Orange Sky has been able to deliver more than 43,776 loads of free laundry from July to September, and 3,804 safe, hot showers for people doing it tough across Australia.

Recent achievements

The last four years have delivered meaningful, measurable benefits—something we’re incredibly proud to support. And in just the last financial year* alone our partnership has helped Orange Sky deliver:

  • 130,653 loads of laundry
  • 3,362 warm showers
  • 155,607 hours of genuine connection on its iconic orange chairs
  • 18,340 support shifts

*2025-26 financial year (1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026)

Every load washed, every shower offered, and every conversation shared has helped foster wellbeing, genuine connection and community for those who need it most.

Walking the walk

In March, we proudly supported Orange Sky’s national fundraising campaign: Walk the Walk powered by BCU Bank. The challenge invited participants to complete 122 km throughout March, representing the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. Orange Sky raised a total of $473,125, helping provide 19,713 people doing it tough with essential hygiene services and meaningful conversations.

In 2026, our BCU team set out to beat the $12,280 raised in 2025, when we placed third nationally. We surpassed that result, raising more than $20,000.

Orange Sky couldn't show up in communities across the country without the support of partners like BCU Bank, who have been walking alongside us since 2023.

In the last financial year alone, Orange Sky has positively connected over 30,000 friends doing it tough by providing free laundry, warm showers and judgement-free spaces for connection.

Driving real change comes down to these small, consistent moments of human connection that partners like BCU Bank make possible.
