In a further commitment to its long-term partnership with Orange Sky Australia, BCU Bank has become the naming rights sponsor of their national Walk the Walk challenge for the first time.
This enhanced partnership reflects our shared commitment to dignity and connection, delivering practical support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship across Australia.
BCU and Orange Sky have been partnered since 2022, with this year marking an exciting
milestone in the relationship. BCU’s appointment as naming rights sponsor of the month-long Walk the Walk challenge represents a deeper commitment to supporting solutions that provide tangible, on-the-ground assistance for people doing it tough.
Through thousands of volunteer-led support shifts each week, Orange Sky delivers services that respond directly to local need. The organisation operates across 55 different locations providing free mobile laundry and shower services, alongside meaningful conversation, helping remove barriers to basic hygiene while creating safe, welcoming spaces for people who may feel disconnected from their communities. This community led approach aligns closely with BCU Bank’s customer-owned model and purpose to enrich the lives of its customers and the communities it serves.
BCU Bank Head of Retail Banking Jay Farrell said the expanded partnership reflects the strong alignment between the two organisations.
“As a customer-owned bank, BCU exists to support our customers and our communities, which makes our continued partnership with Orange Sky a natural fit,” Mr Farrell said.
“The rising cost of living has been tough on many Australians, and more people than ever are relying on practical and social support services. Through this partnership, BCU is helping extend access to essential services while supporting genuine human connection.”
BCU’s partnership with Orange Sky has already delivered measurable outcomes. In FY25, BCU-supported activity contributed to 174 support shifts, more than 1,000 loads of laundry, 694 hot showers and nearly 1,400 hours of conversation.
Orange Sky Co-Founder and CEO Lucas Patchett welcomed BCU Bank’s support, saying “With the need for support greater than ever, Orange Sky’s Walk the Walk campaign is all about coming together to help those doing it tough.
We’re so grateful to BCU Bank, who’ve been backing us since 2022, for getting behind this challenge and helping us support the more than 122,000 Aussies experiencing homelessness. Coming together and rallying as a community is what makes a real difference.”
The BCU Bank Walk the Walk challenge encourages participants to complete 122 kilometres of physical activity throughout March, representing the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness on any given night. Funds raised support the delivery of essential hygiene services and meaningful connection nationwide.
