BCU Bank today announced a partnership with charity Orange Sky Australia to provide practical community support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship.

The world’s first free mobile laundry service for people experiencing homelessness and hardship, Orange Sky, provides free laundry, warm showers, and conversation to vulnerable people in more than 38 locations across Australia.

BCU Bank General Manager Mark Smyth said the partnership reflected BCU’s commitment to supporting local communities.

“As a customer-owned bank, BCU Bank exists to support our members and our communities, which is a natural fit with Orange Sky’s mission to provide positive connections,” Mr Smyth said.

“The rising cost of living has been tough on many, and there are more people than ever who rely on Orange Sky’s practical and social support to get by.

“By partnering with Orange Sky, BCU Bank is helping to connect with some of the most vulnerable members of our communities through genuine care, good conversation, hot showers, clean laundry, and other support services.”

Orange Sky Co-Founder and CEO, Lucas Patchett, welcomed BCU Bank’s support saying “there has never been a more important time for Orange Sky to be in the community supporting people in need.”

“Since launching Orange Sky back in 2014, our services have never been busier. With the rise in cost of living, coupled with the housing crisis, we are seeing more Aussies than ever before coming to Orange Sky and our incredible team of volunteers for support.”

“Orange Sky couldn't do what we do without the support of the incredible community and partners like BCU Bank. With BCU Bank’s generous support, we can provide over 2,084 loads of free laundry and safe, hot showers for our friends doing it tough across Australia.”
