Climate change

Our Board and Executive recognise that climate change has the potential to impact our organisation, our members and the communities in which we operate. As stated on the Market Forces website, "BCU Bank primarily lends for residential and investment housing/property/land, personal loans and credit cards. BCU Bank’s business lending excludes large-scale activities, projects and industries involved in exploration, extraction or production of fossil fuels or in electricity generation from fossil fuels.

Even though we do not directly finance initiatives in the areas mentioned above we acknowledge that, currently, the use of fossil fuel energy is critical to the socio-economic sustainability of many individuals, businesses and communities who are still dependent on non-renewable energy. We will continue offering such individuals, businesses and communities financing and other services that they need for core business activities in areas other than the ones mentioned above.

In accordance with our values of partnering and supporting our members and their communities, we will continue to support our members and develop and improve our lending policies, procedures and products that would help us, our members and their communities to sustainably transition to a low-carbon future."
