bcu announces appointment of new Chief Executive Officer

Coffs Harbour-based credit union bcu has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Butler.

Mr Butler has worked at the organisation for eight years and stepped into the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer late last year.

Following his successful tenure as Acting CEO, and a robust validation process, bcu formally offered Mr Butler the position of CEO.

Mr Butler holds a Bachelor of Business, Masters of Business Law and Graduate Certificate of Business in Banking. He is also a Member of CPA Australia.

bcu Chairman Stephen Targett said that Mr Butler has led bcu through challenging times, to one of its most financially successful years on record.

“Alan has led the team through significant change over the last year, including the relocation of our Coffs Harbour teams into the new Coffs Central offices,” Mr Targett said.

“During this time, we have delivered mobile app improvements, the ActivePay wearable wristband and welcomed more than 3,500 new members to the credit union. We have also focused on our community engagement, with the bcu team being involved in many local community events.

“We were proud to be a part of events such as the bcu Coffs Tri, the Macksville Pro-Ag, the Lismore National Show and the Woolgoolga Mountain Bike Festival. These events provide an important boost to regional economies and are a great way for bcu staff to connect with our members.

“These achievements have demonstrated Alan’s exceptional leadership skills during his time as Acting CEO, and we are very excited to now have him on-board in a permanent capacity.”

Prior to his time at bcu, Mr Butler worked in credit management, strategy and related roles, including mergers and acquisitions, and capital raisings with regional banks. He said that he is looking forward to leading bcu during an exciting time in the organisation’s history.

“It’s a great honour to be offered this role by the board, and I’m looking forward to being part of the bcu team for years to come,” Mr Butler said.

“In this role, my focus will be to continue to drive positive outcomes and value for our members.”
