Bowraville BCU store update

Statement from Mike Ribbens, General Manager, BCU

As you may be aware, our Bowraville BCU store was closed temporarily on 30 January 2020. This was in direct response to an escalating number of security incidents, including verbal abuse and threats of physical violence directed at staff in store and in the community.

During the past few months we have evaluated a wide range of options that would enable the store to re-open.

After careful and considered assessment, we are pleased to share that we have developed a solution to the complex situation that we believe serves the best interests of all stakeholders.

BCU will be re-opening its Bowraville store as a Cashless Service Hub.

We understand the important role BCU plays in the Bowraville community, particularly as BCU is the last bank operating in Bowraville and are pleased to be able to continue to service and support our members while also meeting our duty of care for our staff.

We will also be completing an upgrade to the existing security of the premises, before re-opening the Cashless Service Hub. We will advise members of a confirmed date for re-opening once these upgrades have been completed.

BCU members are able to use Australia Post’s Bank@Post services to complete the majority of transactions typically done in-store. All Bank@Post fees for transactions completed at the Bowraville Post Office will be waived by BCU, making this service free for our Bowraville members. A concierge service will also be provided where possible to Members at the BCU Cashless Service Hub to assist with the transition to Bank@Post services.

BCU members are able to complete Bank@Post transactions using their BCU Visa Debit Card and PIN. If you do not currently have a BCU Visa Debit Card, please call 1300 228 228 and our team can arrange to have a BCU Visa Debit Card mailed to you.

In addition to using Bank@Post services, members can also use iBank or our BCU Bank app to perform many banking transactions. Our Coffs Harbour based call centre is open Monday – Friday 8am to 6pm and can assist members with registering for and navigating iBank and BCU Bank.
