About BCU

Message from the Chairman of BCU
As a community credit union owned by our members, BCU remains firmly committed to the mutual philosophy of credit unions, and our primary focus continues to be on serving the interests of our members and the communities in which we live and work.

We employ locals; we sponsor local clubs and community organisations, and when you do your banking with BCU your money stays in the local economy helping your community. Recent examples of high-profile BCU sponsorships include:

  • 2007 Coffs Coast Business Awards
  • Neville Spear Chair of Aged Services, SCU
  • BCU Bill Ussher Agricultural Scholarship
  • 2007-2008 series of strategic planning workshops by Business Strategy Corporation.

BCU was formed in 1970 in northern NSW by a group of local business people who got together to help each other out. BCU has grown to become one of the largest regional credit unions in Australia, with 21 branches from Port Macquarie to Bundall on the Gold Coast.

Our products and services have achieved national recognition. BCU has been awarded three ‘Best of the Best’ Money Magazine awards and twice in a row we have been awarded five-star ‘superior’ ratings in all four business categories by CANNEX, Australia’s leading independent financial services research group.*

BCU understands the importance of small business to the economic sustainability of regional areas. Around 30% of BCU loans are to small business which is a major way we re-invest in local economies.

However, BCU offers much more than just finance. We’re here for the long haul – helping local business and ensuring the economic health of local communities. Hence our sponsorship of these strategic planning workshops.

I ask all small business operators to consider how these workshops might benefit their business and to take this opportunity to develop their own individualised strategic approach to managing a small business in today’s highly competitive business environment.

Gerry Regan
Chairman, BCU
