Plan Ahead for Effective Bushfire Protection

Victoria’s devastating bushfires, the worst wildfires in Australia’s history, are a painful reminder of the need for adequate insurance protection.

Tragically, up to 50 per cent of homes in areas affected by the February 2009 bushfires were either uninsured or under-insured1 - leaving hundreds of families facing severe financial loss and reliant on government welfare as they try to get their lives back on track.

Lack of insurance is a common problem throughout Australia. People simply don’t think that they will lose their home, whether it is due to a bushfire or any other event.

Around 1.8 million Australian households, or nearly one in four, do not have either home or contents insurance (or both), with most homeowners severely uninsured according to research prepared for the Insurance Council of Australia2.
“It is never too early to re-assess your insurance needs, especially the cost of replacing all assets both inside and outside the home,” BCU’s Insurance Manager, Merran Taylor said.

“It's worth checking that your policies are current and that you have a sufficient level of cover.”

BCU uses Allianz Australia Insurance Limited (Allianz) as our trusted insurance provider.  Allianz provides both home building and contents insurance cover to protect your assets when you need it most.
