Income tax calculator

Calculate how much tax you should be paying with our user-friendly income tax calculator. It's simple, too – just enter how much you earn (either your gross or net income) for the week, fortnight, month, or year, and our calculator will give you an estimate.

How to use our income tax calculator

Simply enter your income (or adjust the dollar amount using the slider) and pick how often you get paid: weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or annually. And, you can also choose between gross income (before taxes and deductions) and net income (after taxes and deductions). Our handy income tax calculator will take it from there, giving you an estimate of how much you can expect to pay in income tax.

Just a heads up: our calculation doesn't include the Medicare levy surcharge or any rebates and tax offsets that might reduce the amount of tax you pay.

Got a question about paying tax and how it works?

Gross income is the money that you earn before deductions such as income tax are removed. Net income is the amount you receive after these deductions.

Use our income tax calculator to get an estimate of your income tax based off your gross or net income. Find out more about your Australian income tax obligations on the ATO website.

You can use our Income Tax calculator to get an estimate of the amount of tax you should be paying.

The Australian Tax Office (ATO) collects income tax from working Australians each financial year, which runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year.  The personal income tax rates that apply for an individual can be found on the ATO website.

For Australian residents you can earn a set amount of money each financial year in the tax-free threshold, and then you will be taxed progressively on income above that amount.

The tax-free threshold and tax rates can be found on the ATO website.

The Foreign Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) applies to any US citizen or resident of the US for tax purposes. These include:

  • anyone born in the US (who has not renounced US citizenship)
  • US citizens (including persons with dual or multiple citizenships)
  • US lawful permanent residents (e.g. green card holders).

If you're unsure whether it applies to you we recommend you seek professional advice from a qualified tax professional. If you'd like more information, please refer to the ATO website.
