Search engine scam targeting online banking

We remind members that we would never include a link to our internet banking in a Google or other search engine ad.

There is a global phishing scam that is targeting bank customers worldwide with bogus ads on search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing, that include a direct link to a fake internet banking log in page.  Anyone that enters their details into the fake internet banking site will be unknowingly providing the scammers with access to their accounts.

What do you need to do?

Never use a search engine link or any links in search engine “paid ads” to access your internet banking, and always check the URL that you are using to determine its authenticity.

As an alternative option, please download and use our BCU Bank app, which is available in both the App Store and Google Play.

As always, you should remain vigilant when interacting with organisations, particularly if they seem suspicious. We recommend that members follow the usual advice about keeping themselves safe from cyber criminals and phishing attacks by visiting our page about staying safe from scams. If you notice any unauthorised transactions contact BCU on 1300 228 228 immediately.
