A Fair Go For Farmers

The BCU Bill Ussher Agricultural Scholarship

The 2008 winners have been announced! click here to find out who won!

In recognition of one of our founding directors and his work in the local farming community, BCU established the BCU Bill Ussher Agricultural Scholarship. This scholarship not only honours the late Mr Ussher’s life but also recognises the vital contribution farmers make to rural Australia.

Created to help support and grow existing agricultural employment and income generation throughout the region, the $11,000 BCU Bill Ussher Agricultural Scholarship is to be used to fund ongoing education in the field of agriculture or business to enable applicants to run more commercially viable rural businesses, for example by:

  • Accessing new markets (here or overseas)
  • Implementing up-to-date farming practices
  • Introducing new stock or species
  • Improving business practices
  • Education may be formal accredited or non-accredited courses, industry seminars/conferences or research through site visits to ‘best practice’ farms further than six hours drive from the applicant’s property (including interstate or overseas).
