Internet banking fraud affects Australians every day.

With a BCU security token, you enjoy an additional layer of security when using iBank internet banking.
Tokens are simple and easy to use, and operate anywhere in Australia and overseas.

How do tokens work?

The token generates a unique one-time number every time you press the grey button. You use this number together with your iBank login name and password to access your online banking accounts.

Internet banking security tips

How do I apply for a token?

Go to iBank and log in as usual, using your login name and password. Under the ‘Other’ tab, pull down ‘Security Options’ and select ‘Request’. Then follow the instructions.
Your token will take about 10 working days to be delivered to your nominated postal address.

Once received, you need to activate your token.

How do I activate my new token?

You go to iBank and log in as usual, using your login name and password.
You will be prompted to activate your token with the following steps:

  1. Enter the ID on the back of the token.
  2. Press the grey button and enter the six-digit one-time number displayed.
  3. Wait 30 seconds until the token’s screen clears and press the grey button again to generate a second one-time number.
  4. Enter this number and click ‘Activate’. This will take you into internet banking.

Note: You only have to do this once.

You have approximately 21 days after ordering your token to activate it. If you do not activate it, you will not be able to use iBank internet banking. Once you have activated your token, you will not be able to use iBank internet banking without it.

How do I log in with my security token?

After you have activated your token, you will need to use your token every time you log in to iBank.

  1. Log in to iBank as usual, using your login name and password.
  2. You will be prompted to enter a one-time number.
  3. Press the token’s grey button to generate a one-time number. This number will remain displayed for 25 seconds. Enter this number into the required field and either click the sign-on button or press ENTER.
  4. If you make a mistake, you need to wait 30 seconds and press the grey button again to generate a new number.
  5. You use each number once. Every time you use your token, it will generate a new number.

Who is eligible for a token?

Any BCU member registered for iBank internet banking.
Joint signatories to an account can choose to share a token or purchase individual tokens.

Frequently asked questions

Q Where can I use my token?

A You can use your token anywhere and any time, including overseas and in remote and isolated parts of Australia. Your token works with any computer operating system and does not require additional equipment or software.

Q How do I look after my token?

A Do not tamper with your token and avoid getting your token wet as it is not waterproof and could get damaged.

Q How long does the battery last?

A Under normal use, the battery should last up to five years. It cannot be replaced. When the battery runs out, you will need to order a replacement token.

Q What if my token is lost, stolen or damaged

A As soon as you know your token is lost, stolen or damaged, notify BCU by calling 1300 228 228.

We will arrange for your token to be cancelled to enable you to order a new token. In the meantime, you can access iBank internet banking as normal. When you receive your new token, you will be prompted to activate it via your iBank login page.

Internet banking security tips

  • Never store your token with your login name or password.
  • Never provide personal banking information over the internet or phone if prompted by an email or website.
  • Always check your statements for unusual or suspicious transactions.
  • Avoid using public computers (internet cafes, libraries etc) to access internet banking.
  • Don’t access iBank via links in other websites.
  • Always log out of iBank when you have finished. Don’t leave your session unattended because others can access your personal information or change your access code without your knowledge.
